When will Aliyah come home .... 7/2/2011

6/29/2011 4 lb 3.4 oz
6/30/2011 4 lb 9.4 oz
7/1/2011 4 lb 8.7 oz
7/2/2011 4 lb 7.6 oz (Ventilator taken off)
30 mL

Aliyah looked good tonight.  She was trying to smile for us.  She also sucked on the pacifier for a little while.  The nurse explained the difficulty last night with the baby sucking the pacifier while the feeding tube is in her mouth at the same time.  In order for her to build up her stamina, we have to hold her and hold the pacifier in her mouth.  Without stamina and muscles in her mouth strong enough, she will not be able to nurse.

Many have asked what the weight requirement is for her to leave the hospital.  There is no such requirement.  There is a checklist that must be completed prior to her leaving.  See below:

  1. NBS #1/#2                                                        -Done
  2. Bridges of Hope Resource at Bedside             -Done
  3. Bathing
  4. Hearing Screen
  5. CPR Class
  6. Hepatitis B Given                                              -Done
  7. Synagis Given
  8. Car Seat Study
  9. Shaken Baby DVD Given
  10. Pictures
  11. Rooming in Scheduled
  12. Coordination (Nursing, breathing, swallowing)
As you can see we have a bit left to do.  Prayerfully, we will be able to meet these requirements by the end of this month.

God Bless,
Barry G.
